What are the Hindu sacred texts?
Hindu ancient, sacred texts were written in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. These may include four main Veda: 1.The Rig Veda-The Rig Veda is a collection of inspired hymns and is a main source of information on the Rig Vedic civilisation. It is the oldest book in the Indo- European language and contains the earliest form of all Sanskrit mantras that date back 1500 BC-1000 BC. 2. Sama Veda- The Sama Veda is purely a Liturgical collection of used as musical notes, were almost completely drawn from the Rig Veda and have no distinctive lessons of their own. 3. Yajur Veda- The Yajur is also a Liturgical collection and was made to meet the demands of a ceremonial religion. The Yajur served as a guide book for the priests who execute sacrificial acts muttering the prose prayers and the sacrificial formulae. 4. Atharva Veda- The last of the Vedas, this is completely different from the other three Vedas and is next in important of the Rig Veda with Regard to history and sociology. They are all primary text of Hinduism. They had a vast influence on Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. The Rig Veda, oldest of the four Vedas, was composed about 1500 B.C. and codified about 600 B.C. The Vedas Contains hymns, incantations, and rituals from ancient India. |
